Dr. Jitendra Singh was born in Jammu. The Lok Sabha member record names his parents as the late Shri Rajinder Singh and Smt Shanti Devi. It lists his recreations as reading biographies and listening to film music of the 1950s and early 1960s, naming Mehdi Hasan, Mohd Rafi and Begum Akhtar. This site does not add personal details beyond what the official record contains.
Medicine & academic career
Dr. Jitendra Singh trained as a physician. The Lok Sabha member record lists his qualifications as follows:
- M.B.B.S., Stanley Medical College, Chennai;
- M.D. (Medicine), which the DST and CSIR minister profiles record as from Government Medical College, Jammu;
- Fellowship (Diabetes), AIIMS, New Delhi;
- MNAMS (Diabetes and Endocrinology);
- Fellow of the Indian College of Physicians;
- Life Patron of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI);
- honorary doctorates from Amity University and the Central University of Jammu.
The record gives his academic service as Professor, Medicine & Diabetes, 1986–2011. The Department of Science & Technology describes him as “a physician known for his work on diabetes and endocrinology”, and as “ex-chairman for the National Scientific Committee Diabetes and the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India”.
Writing & publications
The Lok Sabha record describes him as the “Author of 8 Books including Monograms on Diabetes and World Book Fair ‘Best Seller’, ‘Diabetes Made Easy’”. It also says he wrote the chapters on diabetes in about a dozen successive editions of the Association of Physicians of India (API) textbook for postgraduate medicine.
For three decades he wrote a syndicated weekly newspaper column, “Tales of Travesty”, and the record lists more than 10,000 published articles in newspapers and journals. The honours listed in the same record are the Jamna Devi Gian Devi Award for Journalism, a Gold Medal for Oration at JIPMER, Puducherry, and an Outstanding Personality Award (2009). Dr. Jitendra Singh was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Udhampur in the 2014 general election, and was re-elected in 2019 and 2024. The 2024 result, from the Election Commission's statistical report, was 5,71,076 votes (51.88%). Ministerial role
He has been a member of the Union Council of Ministers since May 2014. His portfolios since then include:

- an additional charge of Youth Affairs & Sports in 2016;
