What the PMO is

The PMO's suo motu disclosure says: “Under the Allocation of Business Rules 1961, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) provides secretarial assistance to the Prime Minister.” It adds that the “PMO is headed by the Principal Secretary to PM”, and describes its decision-support function as “assisting, as required, for decisions on proposals received”.

Individual designation

What the designation records

The official portfolio list names Dr. Jitendra Singh as “Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office”. This is not an Independent Charge designation. The PMO serves the Prime Minister, and its administrative head is a civil servant, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. This site does not describe the Minister of State as directing the PMO or controlling its decisions.
