According to the Cabinet Secretariat's list as on 23 June 2026, he is Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology and of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. He is also Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Department of Atomic Energy and the Department of Space. A Minister of State with Independent Charge is responsible for a ministry without a Cabinet Minister above them in that ministry. Dr. Jitendra Singh holds Independent Charge of Science & Technology and of Earth Sciences. In the PMO, Personnel, Atomic Energy and Space he is Minister of State without Independent Charge.

Both departments come under the Prime Minister. Dr. Jitendra Singh is the Minister of State in each, and in that role answers questions in Parliament, pilots legislation such as the SHANTI Act, 2025, and represents the departments at events. See Atomic Energy and Space.

He is a physician. The Lok Sabha member record lists an M.B.B.S. from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, an M.D. in Medicine, and a Fellowship in Diabetes at AIIMS, New Delhi. It gives his service as Professor, Medicine & Diabetes, from 1986 to 2011. See About.

The official record says he is the author of eight books, and names two of them: Monograms on Diabetes and Diabetes Made Easy. He also wrote a weekly newspaper column, “Tales of Travesty”, for three decades. See Books & Writings.

Official sources disagree. The Lok Sabha record gives 15 September 1956, while ministry web pages give 6 November 1956. The site gives only the year and place, 1956 in Jammu, on which they agree.
